A great weekend getaway for people who enjoy a Bavarian village experience is the small town of Mount Angel, which is located northeast of Salem, Oregon.
Mount Angel boasts of religious sites such as the Queen of Angels Monastery and Saint Mary Catholic Church. The population of this small village was less than 4000 in 2010. Although there are many Churches, abbeys, and monasteries, it is also more than suitable for festivals, too. The Mount Angel Oktoberfest is the largest one held in the Pacific Northwest. The town rings in the festival with the largest glockenspiel in America: A 49-foot tower that tells the story of Mt. Angel’s history using hand-carved figures of Native Americans and German settlers.
