Germans in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has a very large population with German heritage that goes back to the late 1800s. It is one of the states where German ancestry outnumbers any other ethnicity. According to the Census data at census.gov, this even includes Native Americans. The early immigration wave peaked in the early 1900s and the next influx of Germans was due to the second World War where Americans stationed in Germany returned with a spouse. German fests and restaurants are popular and one of the larger Oktoberfest events in the country is hosted in Tulsa (Tulsa Oktoberfest). Even though Oklahoma has such a large German heritage, it is not as visible as in places like New Braunfels, TX where it is very noticeable.
