German Culture in New Ulm, Minnesota

The final German town we will investigate is New Ulm, Minnesota. New Ulm is the home of the largest Turner Hall (German-American gymnasium) in the United States.

This little German town is loved for festivals such as the summer Bavarian Fest which earned New Ulm the nickname of the “Polka Capital of the country.” There are so many different festivals that draw tourists to New Ulm. They include Fasching, Oktoberfest, Bavarian Blast, Schell’s Bock Fest, Rennaissance Festival, Parade of Lights at Christmas time and a Grape Stomp Festival. Sounds like party time to me!

So, as you can see, there are many places you can go in the United States and savor your German heritage, German food, and awesome German-style beers and wines. And as you have seen in this article, German Americans have worked hard to preserve their culture and customs. In addition to German restaurants and pubs, there are German museums everywhere that display the history of Germans that have settled in the United States. These are just several of the better-known cities. There are way too many to share. Google your city and see what German activities are in your area. It is a small world (but I wouldn’t want to paint it!!)
