Step into the world of a 19th-century Leipzig house concert!
Le 31 mars au Goethe-Institut de Montréal, rentrez dans l’univers d’un concert de salon à Leipzig au XIXe siècle. Spontanés et toujours conviviaux, ces concerts de salon jouaient un rôle important dans la vie sociale de l’époque et représentaient une occasion d’échange d’idées entre artistes et mélomanes.
Inspiré par la pianiste et célèbre salonnière leipzigoise Henriette Voigt, le programme de ce concert rassemble des œuvres qui ont jadis résonné dans son propre salon lors de soirées musicales entre amis. Le salon d’Henriette était reconnu comme lieu de rencontre pour les plus grandes figures du romantisme musical allemand, dont les Schumanns, Mendelssohn, et même Chopin. Ponctués par des anecdotes du journal même d’Henriette, la musique de Robert et Clara Schumann, Félix Mendelssohn, William Sterndale Bennett et Franz Schubert combinant piano (à deux et à quatre mains), violon et violoncelle s’entendra au cours de cette soirée intime.

On March 31 at the Goethe-Institut, step into the world of a 19th-century Leipzig house concert with music by Clara and Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, William Sterndale Bennett, and Franz Schubert. Sometimes chaotic but always convivial, these salon concerts played a major role in the social lives and networking of musicians of the time.
Inspired by German pianist and salon host Henriette Voigt, this concert brings together music that was known to have been played in her living room on casual musical evenings among friends. Henriette’s salon was a meeting place for key figures of musical Romanticism, including the Schumanns, Mendelssohn, and even Chopin.
A mixture of solo and chamber music including piano, cello, violin, and piano four-hands will be interspersed with anecdotes from Henriette’s own diary descriptions of musical evenings in her home.
